About Sometimes Storage

Sometimes Storage is a publisher of storage ideas and home organization advice. We cover storage for every room in a home, for every category of thing that accumulates in one, for every kind of property from a studio flat to a motorhome, and for every method of storing — hidden, vertical, built-in, bought or made.

The library is organized four ways deliberately, because storage problems arrive in four different shapes. Sometimes you have a room that has run out of space. Sometimes you have a pile of one specific thing with nowhere to go. Sometimes the constraint is the property itself. And sometimes you already know what you want to build and need to know whether it will work.

There is no shortage of storage content online, and most of it is photographs. A gallery of beautiful pantries is genuinely enjoyable, but it rarely tells you that round jars waste about a fifth of a shelf, that a 600mm-deep cabinet has 300mm you will never reach, or that the ottoman bed you are about to order lifts from the end your room does not have space at.

Those are the facts that decide whether a storage idea works. We think they belong in the article rather than in the reviews of the product you bought and had to return.

The site is built from a content plan covering 327 storage topics. We publish those topics as they are written, and only when they are written. A topic still in the queue appears on its category page as plain text, not as a link to an empty page.

That is a deliberate choice. A site that publishes 300 thin pages to look comprehensive is worse for you and worse for search engines than a site that publishes 30 useful ones and is honest about the rest. Our category pages show you the full roadmap so you can see what is coming.

We write in US English but the storage market is international, and so is the audience for a phrase like "airing cupboard storage ideas". Where a term is regional we use the term the space is actually called locally — a cloakroom is a cloakroom, and a mudroom is a mudroom.

Dimensions are given in millimetres and metres, because that is the unit storage furniture and building materials are manufactured in, with imperial equivalents where it helps. All figures are typical values for guidance. Measure your own space before buying anything.
